Madisonville is a Louisiana town that is located about 48 minutes to the north of New Orleans. It is located just to the north of Lake Pontchartrain along the banks of the Tchefuncte River. The town was originally founded in the year 1800 by Jean Baptiste Baham, but it was renamed Coquille after it was acquired by the United States. The town was renamed Madisonville in 1810 in honor of James Madison, the fourth president of the United States.
